Vintage Style White Metal Birdcage – French Country Decorative Bird Cage

A wonderfully romantic little piece for creating that relaxed, collected French-country look.

This beautiful decorative metal birdcage has been finished in a soft aged ivory-white, with gentle distressing and little areas of wear giving it the appearance of something that has been sitting in an old conservatory or country house for years.

Its tall domed shape is particularly lovely, rising to a traditional finial and decorative hanging hook at the top. Delicate scrolling wirework runs around the sides, while the base features an unusually pretty pierced floral design.

The domed upper section hinges open, allowing the whole top of the cage to lift away and making it wonderfully easy to create displays inside.

At approximately 50cm tall to the top of the hook and just 18cm in diameter, it has an elegant, slender proportion that makes it easy to display without taking up a great deal of space.

Why We Like It

This is one of those pieces that has almost endless styling possibilities.

Leave it completely empty and the delicate wirework is decorative enough to make it an attractive object in its own right. But lift the hinged top and it becomes a lovely little display cage.

We can imagine it filled with dried hydrangeas, trailing foliage, old postcards or letters, a collection of little glass bottles, seasonal decorations or warm battery-operated fairy lights.

The distressed cream finish is especially good. It stops the piece feeling too pristine and gives it exactly the slightly faded, timeworn character that works so well alongside old French stoneware, linen, baskets and rustic timber.

Condition

This is a pre-owned decorative piece rather than a particularly old antique. It has an intentionally aged and distressed painted finish with areas of rubbing, small marks and darker areas visible through the cream paint.

These imperfections work beautifully with its French-country styling and form part of the character of the piece.

Perfect For

• It's particularly suited to French country, shabby chic, cottage, farmhouse and brocante-inspired interiors.
• Use it on a console table or dresser, hang it from a decorative hook, incorporate it into a conservatory or garden-room display, or use it as a centrepiece for a wedding or special occasion.

Not everything we bring home from the Brocante trail has to be a precious antique.

Sometimes we simply spot something with the right shape, texture and character – something we know will sit beautifully amongst older pieces.

With its faded cream finish, delicate wirework and wonderfully pretty shape, this little birdcage was one of those finds.

Fill it with plants or dried flowers, add a few tiny lights or simply leave it exactly as it is.
