A wonderfully characterful piece of vintage English kitchenware, this Royal Barum Ware Fruit Juice Jug was produced by the historic Brannam pottery tradition of Barnstaple, North Devon.

Made from warm terracotta earthenware, the jug has a beautifully simple rounded form with a generous handle and pronounced pouring spout. A rich, almost treacle-brown glaze runs around the rim and continues throughout the interior, providing a lovely contrast against the natural matt terracotta body.

Across the front is the original black transfer decoration bearing the Royal Barum crest and the words: FRUIT JUICE, Royal Barum Ware

The smaller lettering also references C. H. Brannam Ltd, Barnstaple and Litchdon Potteries, Devon, giving the jug a particularly appealing connection to North Devon's long pottery-making heritage.

At 16 cm high, it's a little taller than its matching Royal Barum Ware Milk jug and the two look particularly good displayed together.

There's something wonderfully nostalgic about these pieces. They were designed for the kitchen rather than the display cabinet, yet today their bold lettering, earthy colouring and honest utilitarian shape make them exactly the sort of vintage pottery that brings character to an English country kitchen.

Why We Like It

It's the original FRUIT JUICE lettering that makes this one for us.

The typography feels unmistakably from another era, while the warm terracotta and glossy dark brown glaze give the jug that relaxed, rustic quality that works so well alongside old wooden boards, stoneware, linens and other pieces of vintage kitchenalia.

We also love that this isn't simply an anonymous piece of old pottery. The Brannam and Barnstaple references give it a genuine connection to an important part of Devon's pottery history.

And, of course, we found its matching Milk jug too.

Displayed side-by-side, they're rather special.

The Matching Pair

This jug has a smaller companion on our website from the same Royal Barum Ware range, decorated MILK.

The Milk jug measures 14 cm high, while this Fruit Juice version stands slightly taller at 16 cm, giving the two a lovely graduated appearance when displayed together.

From the Brocante Trail

Old kitchens were filled with pieces made for a particular purpose – milk jugs, preserve jars, mixing bowls, storage crocks and serving pots.

They weren't intended to become collectables. They were simply part of everyday life.
Perhaps that's why pieces like this have so much charm today.

With its wonderfully straightforward FRUIT JUICE inscription and warm Devon pottery, this is one of those objects that instantly makes a shelf or kitchen dresser feel as though it has been collected over generations rather than styled overnight.

Every treasure has a story. This one found us on the Brocante trail. Now it’s waiting to become part of yours.
