Les Fromages de Chèvre Collection No. 036 celebrates France's extraordinary tradition of producing regional goat's cheeses.
The collection features six distinctive cheeses and styles: Sainte-Maure de Touraine the famous log-shaped cheese of the Loire Valley. Chabichou du Poitou a small, characterful cheese associated with the Poitou region. Crottin de Chavignol one of the best-known goat's cheeses of the Loire. Pélardon a traditional cheese from the Cévennes and Languedoc. Valençay instantly recognisable by its unusual truncated pyramid shape. Bouchon de Chèvre a small cylindrical style whose name references the shape of a cork.
Around them, illustrations of goats, milk churns, vineyards, villages and a traditional cheese cellar tell the wider story of rural cheesemaking. At its heart is L'Art du Fromager the knowledge and craftsmanship passed from one generation of cheesemakers to another.
Artwork Inspiration
The artwork draws inspiration from vintage French agricultural posters, old fromagerie advertising, illustrated food encyclopaedias and the labels once found on regional cheeses throughout France. Goat's cheese is particularly associated with the rural landscapes of central and southern France, where local climate, pasture, traditional production and ageing methods have created cheeses with remarkably individual characters. The artwork celebrates that connection between terroir, farming and food something at the very heart of traditional French cuisine.
