Les Fromages Bleus Collection No. 037 celebrates the extraordinary variety of France's traditional blue cheeses.

The collection features six distinctive varieties: Roquefort perhaps the most famous French blue of all, traditionally associated with the natural caves of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon. Bleu d'Auvergne a creamy, flavourful blue originating in the volcanic landscapes of the Auvergne. Fourme d'Ambert instantly recognisable for its tall cylindrical form and beautifully marbled interior. Bleu des Causses a characterful blue traditionally associated with the limestone plateau country of southern France. Bleu de Gex a traditional cheese from the Jura mountain region. Bleu de Bresse a softer, creamy style associated with the Bresse region. At the foot of the artwork, traditional cheese cellars and a rustic cheese-and-wine arrangement celebrate L'Art du Fromager the patience, skill and generations of knowledge behind French cheesemaking.

Artwork Inspiration

The design takes its inspiration from old French food charts, regional cheese advertisements, agricultural illustrations and the beautifully decorated packaging once associated with specialist French food producers. Blue cheese is particularly suited to this style because each variety tells a story of place from caves and mountain pastures to particular regional cheesemaking traditions. The result is an artwork celebrating not simply cheese, but the French idea of terroir: the relationship between landscape, climate, tradition and flavour.
