Glowing red and golden nectarines hang amongst deep green leaves and delicate pink blossom, while cut fruit reveals the wonderfully warm golden-orange flesh and distinctive stone within. The combination of ripe fruit, blossom and foliage gives the artwork the appearance of a traditional botanical study while retaining the decorative character of the wider collection.

The French title “Les Brugnons” refers to a type of smooth-skinned stone fruit closely associated with nectarines. Beneath the illustration, “Trésors du Verger à l’Ancienne – Juteux, Parfumés & Doucement Sucrés” translates approximately as Treasures of the Traditional Orchard – Juicy, Fragrant & Gently Sweet.

Why We Love It

The colours make this one particularly special.

The nectarines have that wonderful mixture of deep crimson, burnt orange and glowing gold that makes ripe stone fruit look almost illuminated. Against the dark botanical greens, they become the immediate focus of the artwork.

We also love the inclusion of the soft pink blossom. It gives the print a lighter, more delicate element and tells more of the story of the fruit tree rather than simply showing the harvested fruit.

The cut nectarine at the bottom is another lovely detail, revealing the richly coloured flesh and beautifully illustrated stone inside.

It is a particularly strong choice for a French country kitchen and would also work beautifully alongside other orchard fruits from the collection.
