Deep blue-purple plums hang amongst abundant green foliage and delicate white blossom, while the foreground follows the fruit from orchard to table. A cut plum reveals its warm golden flesh and stone alongside dark, glossy dried prunes — the transformation that gives the Pruneau d’Agen its distinctive character.

The artwork also features a decorative Pruneaux d’Agen emblem, reinforcing the fruit’s strong connection with the Agen region and its long-established French culinary heritage.

The inscription “Trésors du Verger à l’Ancienne – Fondants, Gourmands & Riches en Tradition” translates approximately as Treasures of the Traditional Orchard – Tender, Indulgent & Rich in Tradition.

Why We Love It

This one has something that makes it particularly interesting within the collection: it shows both the fruit and what it becomes.

The fresh plums are beautiful subjects in their own right, with rich blue, violet and aubergine skins contrasting wonderfully with the foliage and white blossom. But the dried prunes at the bottom give the artwork another layer and immediately tell the story behind the title.

We also love the regional French connection. Rather than simply depicting a type of fruit, Les Pruneaux d’Agen celebrates a food genuinely associated with a particular part of France, which gives the artwork a lovely sense of place and tradition.
