This Antique Stoneware Flagon is a wonderful piece of British brewing and bottling history.
It was made for Adames Bros, Wine & Spirit Merchants of Chichester, and bears their original black transfer print on a classic two-tone glaze. Estimated to be from c. 1880.
It features a rich honey-brown salt glaze shoulder and top, with a buff stoneware base body. The pottery mark near the handle reads "Pearce, Bristol", a well known manufacturer of stoneware during this period.
