This eyecatching plate was made by Sarreguemines in the late 1800's. It is part of the Grands Hommes Series depicting famous people. This one shows a portrait of Leon Gambetta.
The other pictures depict key moments in history involving Leon Gambetta, including his departure for the town of Tours on the 7th of October 1870.
It is made from fine porcelain and is in good general condition. There are 2 chips on the back of the plate (shown in the photos) but these do not detract from or affect the rest of the plate.
It is stamped on the back with the Sarreguemines stamp and the letter H, and is embossed with the lettering 2G23.
This plate measures 22cm in diameter and is 2cm deep.
A lovely decorative item with some great history!
